Cyrtopodium paranaense Schltr
Family: Orquidaceae This orchid is from“restinga” (a sand bank located along the coastline) of Rio de Janeiro. It flowers regularly in early summer. The juice of the pseudobulbs is used in popular medicine to promote healing of inflamed skin lesions. It is found in many Brazilian states, usually in coastal sand plains. Catasetum macrocarpum
Family: Orchidaceae The name Catasetum originates from the Greek kata which means "underneath" and the Latin seta referring to the two extensions at the base of the column of the flower in the form of an arrow. Its flowers let off a mild and pleasant fragrance. Pollination occurs by means of a complex process, when a specific bee visits its flowers. The original watercolor belongs to the King and Queen of Spain. It was a present of State offered by the President of Brazil during their official visit to Brazil in July, 2000. | Acacallis cyanea
Family: Orchidaceae The Genus Acacallis originates from the Greek. It is in homage to a Greek nymph. Acacallis cyanea is the most widespread species of the genus. It is found from the Venezuelan Amazonic region to the Brazilian states of Acre, Amazonas and Rondônia. Its flowers, of exuberant beauty, reach 4cm in width and its color is rare among orchids, varying from a rose violet to a bluish violet. Each cluster has 3 to 7 flowers. Despite its apparent fagility, the flowers are durable, remaining open for a few weeks. The original painting belongs to the King and Queen of Spain. Vriesea saudersii
